Heartland Village is a residential development situated near the geographic center of Staten Island, New York. Originally part of New Springville, Heartland Village became a prominent housing development in the late 1960s. Bounded within Richmond Avenue, Rockland Avenue, Richmond Hill Road, and Forest Hill Road, the area excludes the various shopping centers also located within its perimeter. As well, Heartland Village is quite close to the Staten Island Mall and numerous smaller shopping centers – overall, this area is quite desirable for potential homeowners on Staten Island. Throughout the years, Heartland Village has developed into Staten Island’s second-largest commercial and admin hub, following St. George.
The history of Heartland Village is closely tied to the construction of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, which opened in 1964. This bridge understandably facilitated significant residential and commercial growth on Staten Island. The development of Heartland Village began in the late 1960s and continued into the early 1980s. The community primarily features medium-sized homes, consisting of two-family residences with six to seven rooms total, with three bedrooms. Recent construction has focused on larger homes and condominiums, which are also occasionally up for sale.
